Scripture: Immediately Jesus reached out His hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” He said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:31
If you are not familiar with this story, the disciples were rowing across the Sea of Galilee one dark and stormy night. They were getting nowhere. Suddenly they see a figure walking on the water toward them. Peter, the impulsive one, shouts out; “Lord, if it’s you command me to come to you.” Jesus replies, “Come.” Peter gets out of the boat, walks a few shaky steps, and proceeds to sink. Jesus grabs his hand and helps Peter back into the boat. Hence the scripture verse.
Our lives are no different. We know Jesus, we believe in him and what he says and then one day, there is a storm. We run this way and that, looking for help here and there, and finally we remember, Jesus! When the storms of life threaten, there is only one thing to do and that is to follow a Peter’s example and call out to Jesus to rescue you. Not when you remember, but immediately.
Jesus is our first resource. He will take your hand and lead you safely through. It may not be as you want or imagine his help to be, but Jesus is faithful and even if it is in giving you the courage to face your storm, he will help you! Even though you may not be aware of it, Jesus is at your side at this exact moment, ready to help you should you call on Him.
Prayer: My Saviour Jesus, Help me to hold on to my faith in you through the work of the Holy Spirit even in the most trying of circumstances. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection:
It is my suggestion that you journal your thoughts and experiences, even your feelings, as a means of pondering what you have read, or allowing the blogpost to guide you. You may not accept or believe everything you read, but asking questions of the material and of yourself is the best way to learn.
