Scripture: Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.” Matthew 24:35 (GNB)
Faith is a choice. Faith in the Word of God, is both a choice, I believe what I read, and a witness to the faithfulness of God, in my life. Faith is also based on the value of trust we have in what we believe, both mentally and spiritually.
On the one hand as we learn to live by faith we begin to make choices based on what we know about God, experiential knowledge. Then on the other hand the more we know about the Word of God the better our choices should become, spiritual knowledge. Thirdly, as we grow in our relationship with God we begin to trust Hime more and rely on the veracity of His Word.
There are several choices that work together in giving us peace in our heart and peace of mind. We choose to focus our thoughts on God, who He is, and then we choose to believe what He says, His Word, and lastly we choose to trust that the Holy Spirit will guide us according to the Word of God.
In most cases the choices we make are influenced by what we believe. Our belief in God the person, our belief in the Word of God and what we believe about what has happened to us during the course of our lifetime. Choose wisely.
Prayer: Father God, Show me through your Word how to make wise choices in my everyday life, Amen.
Reflection:
Are you journalling your thoughts and experiences, even your feelings? Ask questions of the material and of yourself, it is the best way to learn. For example:
Do we actually live by faith or do we live by what we have experienced?
